In the late 70’s and through the 80’s, Leonardo Gasparini thrived as a young musician in Teatro La Fenice, in Venice, where he had many different responsibilities, from orchestra pianist to musical stage director.  He worked with renowned singers, among others, Marylin Horne, Lucia Valentini Terrani, Samuel Ramey, Francisco Araiza.

Leonardo Gasparini collaborated with Maestro George Pretre,
Gabriele Ferro, Roger Norrington, Ettore Gracis.

It is mainly in this venue where he acquired a good knowledge of the traditional lyric repertoire.

He had also a rich experience as assistant conductor in important lyric productions: from Rossini, Wagner, to Nono, in theaters like La Scala, Teatro Regio, Hamburg Staatsoper, Prag Operahouse, and many international festivals.

From 1986-1992 Leonardo Gasparini was assistant conductor to
Claudio Abbado and Zoltan Pesko and worked in the following productions:

Prometeo by Luigi Nono, (1984) Biennale di Venezia.
Il Viaggio a Reims by G. Rossini (1984) Festival Rossini, Pesaro.
Der Ring der Nibelungen by R.Wagner  (1986-89) Teatro Regio di Torino
Bellerofonte by J.Myslivecek (1988) for the recording company Supraphon of Prague.
Luisa Miller by Verdi(1989) Teatro alla Scala di Milano.
Blimunda by Azio Corghi (1990) Teatro alla Scala di Milano.
Tristan und Isolde by R.Wagner (1990) Hamburg Staatsoper.
L’Idolo Cinese by G.B.Pergolesi (1992) Teatro San Carlo di Napoli.
